I know that birth can be safe and satisfying for both mom and baby! Why I'm passionate about evidence-based birth...
I am a wife, a mother, and an advocate for couples in the childbearing years. When I was pregnant with my first child, most of what I knew about having a baby had been imprinted on me by a lifetime of terrifying TV & film portrayals of "emergency" births with a heavy amount of medical intervention. I think most women in the US have been imprinted with a similar impression of what birth is like. Contrary to popular belief, the vast majority of births are NOT an emergency. Rather, birth is quite normal! It is a beautiful rite of passage. Since the birth of my second child, I am convinced that there is no more pleasurable experience for women than an empowered birth in a supportive environment. (Yes, Dads, you should be envious!)
The childbirth education class I took while pregnant 2008 changed my life; it changed the way I think I about my own health care decisions and the way I parent my children. I went on to have three vaginal deliveries without pain medication. Since then, I have been on a journey of passionately learning everything I can about birth. Improving birth experiences for families is the the thing that gets me out of bed in the morning and the thing that keeps me awake at night (yes, I might be nuts).
I've learned that there can be a balance between healthy lifestyle, following women's instincts, and modern birth wisdom ...tempered with careful use of medical technology. My mission is to help each woman learn her about options, so she can make the best choice for her family.
My goal is to inspire women -- and their companions -- with the confidence to make informed, positive choices surrounding pregnancy, birthing, wellness, and parenting.
Informed women are empowered women.
The ability to make informed decisions with your health care team puts the ball in your court...leading you to a less painful birth, a more satisfying experience, and healthier outcomes.
The media has failed us.
The medical system is imperfect.
But, together, we're improving birth.
My passion is to help couples have the best birth experience they can have through:
So keep calm, birth is normal!
I strive to be friendly, knowledgeable, and professional.
